You’re my friend because…

Client: Student Project

Challenge: To create a piece of art on an unorthodox material.

Solution: For this project, I wanted to experiment with hand-lettering and sign painting. I found a mailbox on Facebook Marketplace and got to work! I decided to use language from letters that were from a friend who had committed suicide. I use the mailbox to hold my own letters that I write to her. I looked to hand-lettering artists and professional sign painters such as Jessica Hische and Koy Sun for inspiration. For the color palette I decided to remain purposeful and focus on using teals and purples, which are the official colors of suicide prevention and awareness.
